Jammu, October 24, 2025 – The Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir wrapped today with the National Conference (NC) clinching all three of its seats, a resounding win that had supporters spilling into Srinagar’s streets by evening, waving green flags and chanting “Sher-e-Kashmir zindabad.” The counting, kicking off at 9 AM in the assembly complex, saw NC’s candidates – former minister Javaid Dar, party general secretary Tanvir Sadiq, and youth leader Mudasir Farooq – sail through with the party’s 42 MLAs plus Congress’s 6 backing them, per Election Commission tallies released at 11 AM. BJP, holding 29 seats, secured the fourth spot with its nominee Dr. Ali Mohammad Mir, edging out independents.
It’s a tale of numbers and nerves in a 90-member house where NC-Congress commands 48, BJP 29, and PDP 3. NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, wrapping a 12 PM presser in Srinagar, called it “the people’s mandate echoing,” jabbing at BJP’s “opportunism” while thanking Congress for “standing firm.” Congress J&K chief Tariq Hameed Karra, at a 1 PM Jammu meet, confirmed the support: “We backed NC for J&K’s voice, not games.” BJP’s Sunil Kumar Sharma, wrapping his 2 PM huddle, shrugged: “One seat, but our Jammu base speaks loud – statehood and floods first.”
Historically, J&K’s RS polls have swung tides – 2019 saw BJP’s dominance post-370; today’s NC haul revives 2014’s alliances.
