5 August marks a moment of irreversible transformation in the story of Jammu and Kashmir. In 2019, Article 370 was abrogated, ending decades of constitutional ambiguity and carving a new path for governance, development, and national integration. Exactly six years later, on this very date in 2025, we take our own transformative step—launching True Roots Media, a platform built to tell the real stories of this land.

This is not a coincidence. It is a conscious commitment to the truth, the region, and its people.
Why True Roots? Why Now?
For far too long, Jammu and Kashmir’s stories have either been lost in the noise or told by outsiders who don’t understand its pulse. True Roots Media was founded with a single mission: to bring clear, honest, and deeply local journalism to the forefront, without echo chambers or sensationalism.
Our stories will be led by reporters who know the terrain, opinion columns will reflect every side, and our features will explore human stories beyond headlines—whether in a border village, a university corridor, or a silent home in Srinagar or Samba.
True Roots is for those who want substance over soundbites. We are here to listen more than we speak, and to build trust—not trends.
Ashok’s Journey: From Roots to Responsibilities
The journey of True Roots is also the journey of its founder, Ashok, a son of the soil who grew up in the heart of Jammu, absorbing the region’s complexities, aspirations, and cultural pride.
Ashok’s early life was shaped by the stories around him—his father’s disciplined approach to life, the resilience of everyday people, and the underlying desire for J&K to find its rightful place in the Indian mainstream.
After pursuing higher education and building a strong professional career across India and abroad—especially through his work in technology and ERP services—Ashok never lost sight of where he came from. That deep connection to his homeland inspired True Roots Media.
“Media today often speaks at people, not to them. I wanted to build a platform that brings Jammu and Kashmir’s stories to the world, but without filters or fixed agendas,” says Ashok. “It’s time our own voices led the narrative.”
True Roots is his tribute to the region, the truth, and the responsibility of telling stories with honesty and heart.
A New Chapter for a New Jammu
Since 2019, Jammu has undergone tectonic shifts—not just in administration, but in mindset. There is a new entrepreneurial energy, a thirst for transparent governance, and a generation of young voices refusing to be left unheard.
True Roots Media sees itself as part of this change. We are not legacy media. We are a new-age newsroom committed to:
- High-quality, ground-reported journalism
- Clear editorial positions backed by evidence
- A spotlight on civic, cultural, and human development in J&K
Whether it’s a water crisis in Rajouri, a business story in Kathua, or a culture piece from Bhaderwah, we aim to cover it with the same depth and integrity.
More Than News: A Platform for Voices

With dedicated sections for stories, opinion, and video, we invite readers, writers, and viewers from all walks of life to engage, question, and contribute.
Our Opinion section will feature diverse perspectives—including Kashmiri Pandit voices, Dogri scholars, Ladakhi activists, displaced communities, and aspiring writers from all corners of the region.
Our Videos will bring real faces to real issues. No flashy soundbites. Just substance and sincerity.
And our feature stories will not just inform—they will connect emotionally, giving space to unheard voices and long-forgotten local heroes.
Inaugurating the Journey, Together
As we go live on 5 August 2025, we’re not here to rewrite history—we’re here to tell it right. To question, to clarify, and to capture the true roots of J&K’s past, present, and future.
We know our work is just beginning.
We invite you—readers, viewers, thinkers, journalists, students, and citizens—to join us. Share your ideas. Recommend stories. Be part of the journey.
