Calling it a “Diwali gift to light up their futures,” the minister praised the girls’ hard work and tied it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for equal opportunities and women-led development. The event, captured in a video that’s already buzzing on social media with 500 shares by noon, saw 10 bright young minds – two from each district: Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, Ramban, and Kishtwar – beaming as they received the gadgets.
Dr. Singh, MP from Udhampur since 2014, emphasized education’s role in empowering the next generation during his 15-minute speech: “These laptops aren’t just tools; they’re keys to unlock dreams. PM Modi’s vision has made this possible, ensuring girls from our hills lead India’s growth story.” The girls, selected based on their CBSE and JKBOSE board results (all scoring above 95%), represent diverse backgrounds – from Pahari families in Kishtwar to urban students in Kathua. One recipient, Priya Sharma, 16, from Ramban’s remote village, shared her joy over a quick chat post-event: “This laptop means online classes without borrowing phones; I want to be an engineer like the minister.” Another, Rehana Khan, 15, from Doda’s Muslim-majority area, added: “Diwali’s light feels brighter – it helps us study amid power cuts.”
