JAMMU, September 24, 2026 – The 131st birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Dogra ruler of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, was celebrated with immense enthusiasm and reverence across the Union Territory on Wednesday. Various political and social organizations came together to hold impressive commemorative programs, paying rich tributes to his visionary leadership and historic legacy. Highlighting the scale of the celebrations, the Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) organized a massive ‘Maharally’ in Jammu City. Led by YRS President Mandeep Singh Rimpy and former President Vikram Singh Vicky, the grand rally witnessed the participation of thousands of people from diverse sections of society who marched to honor the Maharaja’s immense contributions to education, social justice, and public welfare.
The celebratory fervor extended well beyond Jammu City, with the Shri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha spearheading a series of vibrant programs across all districts of the Jammu division. In Ramban, a major function was presided over by Kr Narayan Singh, Chairman of the Shri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha J&K, alongside MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju. Similarly, Samba witnessed grand celebrations attended by former Minister and MLA Surjit Singh Slathia as the chief guest, with Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Soodan and SSP Anuj Kumar gracing the occasion as guests of honor. Additional commemorative rallies and cultural programs reflecting traditional Dogra heritage were enthusiastically held in Basohli, Akhnoor, and Khour, where local leaders and citizens gathered in large numbers to remember the sovereign who guided the state through critical crossroads in history.
In addition to the large-scale public rallies, several social and industrial organizations marked the day by focusing on community welfare, reflecting the Maharaja’s administrative ethos. The Social Reforms & Charitable Organization celebrated the occasion by spending time with children at the Ashana Orphanage in Kishtwar, emphasizing Maharaja Hari Singh’s commitment to social equality and inclusive development. Furthermore, the Jammu & Kashmir chapter of Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB) paid floral tributes to the former ruler, recalling his progressive economic and administrative reforms. The widespread and diverse nature of these celebrations across the region underscores the enduring respect and deep emotional connection the people of Jammu and Kashmir continue to hold for the last Dogra Maharaja.
