NEW DELHI, August 1, 2026 – Amid a growing controversy over derogatory remarks made against him during recent student protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a late-night video message urging the nation to choose guidance over punishment for the “misguided” youth.
The video, shared across the Prime Minister’s social media platforms on Friday night, comes in the wake of viral clips from a July 23 demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The protests, organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), were demanding the resignation of the Education Minister over alleged exam paper leaks. During the demonstration, videos circulated online purportedly showing young protesters, including a woman from Noida, using abusive language directed at the Prime Minister and his late mother.
“What happened at Jantar Mantar has been seen by the country and the world. Some misguided youngsters used language that has no place in any civilised society. I was abused, and even my late mother was abused,” PM Modi stated in the video.
However, taking a conciliatory tone, the Prime Minister explicitly stated his desire to forgive the protesters. He emphasized that youth is a time for learning and self-correction, urging society to embrace the protesters rather than ostracizing them.
“Now is the time to embrace these children and show them the right path. They have lost their way, and it is our duty to guide them. Punishing them, dragging them through court proceedings, or harassing them in society—none of this will change the situation. I wish to forgive them,” he said. He further shared a message on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Abuses never solve anything. Let’s guide the misguided. Let’s work together. Let’s work for Bharat.”
1.Apology Issued:
Hours after the Prime Minister’s video, a girl claiming to be 15 years old (despite earlier police reports describing the accused as 25) released an apology video. She stated she was influenced by others at the protest and pleaded for forgiveness, calling it her “first and last mistake.”
2.Police Action:
Prior to the PM’s video, Noida Police had registered a Zero FIR against the woman seen in the viral protest clip for making allegedly abusive and objectionable remarks.
3.Focus on Exam Reforms:
In his video message, PM Modi also addressed the root cause of the protests, highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen the examination system. He reiterated that a stringent anti-paper leak bill had recently been passed by Parliament and warned that “paper leak mafias” would face strict action.
The Prime Minister concluded his address by urging the youth to learn from their mistakes and work collaboratively towards the dream of a developed India.
