CISF Increases ‘Additional Reserve’ Personnel in CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Z+ Category Security

NEW DELHI, October 8, 2026 – In response to escalating protests over alleged irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has deployed “additional reserve” personnel to strengthen the ‘Z+’ category security cover of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Official sources confirmed on Thursday that the deployment of additional CISF personnel was stepped up on October 7 following formal orders to reinforce the security detail. The increased troop presence has been prominently stationed at the CEC’s official residence in Delhi’s New Moti Bagh Colony, his family’s residence in Agra, and the Election Commission of India headquarters in central Delhi.

The security upgrade comes in the wake of repeated Opposition demonstrations and protests targeting the Election Commission over the ongoing SIR exercise. According to senior police officials, the situation necessitated a fresh threat assessment after protesters managed to track down the CEC’s private residences and attempted to stage demonstrations.

“There were some protesters who attempted to enter the New Moti Bagh colony and almost reached his house. We have upped paramilitary safety here,” a senior police officer stated, adding that barricades and police pickets have also been placed near the residence to regulate entry, requiring all visitors to provide identification. Similar heightened security measures have been implemented at the ECI headquarters due to daily gatherings and marches in central Delhi.

CEC Gyanesh Kumar already possessed the ‘Z+’ security cover, which is the highest tier of civilian protection provided by the government. The cover includes round-the-clock personal security officers (PSOs), guards, watchers, and close protection teams. The newly inducted “additional reserve” forces are expected to work in close coordination with the Delhi Police to manage demonstrations, secure key constitutional buildings, and maintain strict law and order on the ground.
