CJP Stir Against CEC: Delhi Police Detains Around 150 Protestors Amid Heavy Security in Capital

NEW DELHI, October 10, 2026 – Delhi Police detained approximately 150 protesters on Friday as they attempted to reach Jantar Mantar for a proposed demonstration organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Police sources confirmed that the detentions took place across the New Delhi area, where law enforcement has deployed drones to actively monitor the movement of groups attempting to converge at the protest site. The CJP had called for the mass demonstration to protest alleged voter-list manipulation during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and recent changes to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.

Anticipating significant mobilization, the Delhi Police had earlier denied permission for the CJP’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar, citing security considerations and unfulfilled procedural requirements. Authorities emphasized that strict prohibitory orders are currently in force across the New Delhi district, appealing to the public to abide by the restrictions.

To maintain law and order, security arrangements have been massively escalated across the national capital. Police personnel are heavily deployed at strategic intersections, particularly those leading toward Jantar Mantar and other sensitive administrative zones, to prevent unauthorized gatherings.

As part of extensive preventive measures, sources revealed that over 600 individuals with criminal records were detained across all 15 districts of Delhi prior to the planned stir. This preemptive action was aimed at ensuring that individuals with criminal backgrounds did not exploit the situation to create law-and-order disturbances during the political demonstration.

In addition to the detentions, police have intensified surveillance outside the residences of key individuals suspected of mobilizing crowds. The authorities continue to maintain a strict vigil, keeping a close watch on possible mobilization efforts to prevent any further breach of peace in the capital.
