Jammu – November 7: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu has formally presented a comprehensive chargesheet before a judicial court against a married couple for allegedly defrauding a prominent Jammu doctor of Rs 3.55 crore in a deceptive real estate transaction.
The accused have been identified as Pieary Lal Koul and his wife Nirmala Koul, both residents of Sainik Colony, Jammu. According to Crime Branch investigators, the couple executed an agreement to sell a prime residential plot alongside a constructed house in Sainik Colony to Dr. Ajay Wakhloo, Director of Ankur Maitrika Hospital, on February 21, 2025.
Believing the representations to be genuine, the complainant remitted approximately Rs 3.55 crore through verified banking transactions, cheques, and cash disbursements to facilitate title transfer and clear stated bank dues. However, an in-depth investigation led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Vishal Sharma revealed that the accused had intentionally concealed material facts—specifically that the property was already heavily mortgaged with J&K Bank against substantial outstanding commercial credit facilities.
Following the collection of documentary, forensic, and banking audit evidence, the EOW concluded the investigation and filed a formal chargesheet before the competent court under Sections 318 (cheating) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for judicial determination.
Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Crime Branch EOW Jammu, issued an advisory urging citizens to exercise extreme vigilance and conduct exhaustive encumbrance verification before entering into high-value property agreements. The department urged the public to report corporate and real estate financial frauds directly through its official helpline (0191-2578901) or via email at sspcrimejmu@jkpolice.gov.in.
