DC Jammu Chairs NCORD Meeting, Reviews Progress Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

JAMMU, October 31, 2026 – Stepping up the administrative offensive against drug abuse, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jammu convened a crucial district-level National Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) meeting on Friday to review the progress of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ (Drug-Free India Campaign).

The high-level meeting was attended by top district and police officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Joginder Singh, Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) Ansuya Jamwal and Ishita Rathi, along with Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and representatives from the health and education sectors.

Emphasizing a comprehensive, multi-pronged strategy, the DC stated that prevention, strict law enforcement, and compassionate rehabilitation must go hand-in-hand to effectively eradicate the drug menace from the Jammu district.

During the review, the Deputy Commissioner issued strict directives across multiple departments. The Revenue Department was instructed to remain highly vigilant and carry out regular ground inspections to ensure that no reconstruction takes place on properties that have been attached or demolished due to their links with the illicit drug trade.

In a significant push for the rehabilitation of victims, the DC directed the District Employment and Counselling Centre to proactively extend hand-holding support to recovered persons. The department was tasked with helping rehabilitated individuals set up independent business ventures, enabling them to reintegrate into mainstream society with dignity and financial independence.

Furthermore, health and drug control officers were instructed to immediately intensify surprise inspections of chemist shops across the district to curb the illegal over-the-counter sale of psychotropic drugs. The administration also stressed the strict, on-ground enforcement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) to prevent youth from falling into early addiction habits.

The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to intensify community awareness campaigns and strengthen the intelligence-sharing grid to dismantle the drug supply chain in Jammu.
