SAMBA, November 5, 2026 – Taking the administration directly to the doorsteps of rural communities, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Samba, Dr. Rupesh Kumar, convened a comprehensive Block Diwas programme at Chilayari in the Rajpura area to assess grassroots developmental needs and resolve pending public grievances.
The community-driven outreach event witnessed robust participation from local residents and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representatives. Locals from Rajpura presented a detailed charter of demands concerning basic infrastructure, rural connectivity, and essential public services to the district administration.
Key issues raised during the public interaction included the urgent need for a playground and additional classrooms at the Government Middle School in Chilayari. Representatives also demanded improved healthcare infrastructure, specifically seeking the deployment of additional doctors and the provision of an ambulance at the local hospital. Other pressing issues highlighted by the community included the beautification of village ponds, augmentation of drinking water supply, rationalization of electricity distribution, and the timely completion of pending PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) and PWD road projects in the block.
Responding promptly to the public demands, DC Rupesh Kumar reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects currently being executed by the Public Works Department (PWD) and PMGSY. Taking a strict stance on delays, he directed the concerned executing agencies to secure all requisite administrative approvals without delay and significantly expedite the pace of construction.
Addressing concerns over road safety, the Deputy Commissioner issued explicit instructions to PMGSY authorities to ensure the proper maintenance of rural road networks and mandate the installation of night reflectors at vulnerable, accident-prone locations to prevent mishaps.
Emphasizing the core principles of responsive governance and efficient service delivery, Dr. Kumar directed all line departments to work in close coordination. “Our goal is to ensure the timely resolution of public issues and the effective, transparent implementation of developmental programmes at the grassroots level,” he told the officials present.
In a move to address the pressing healthcare demands, the DC specifically directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to strengthen medical services in the Rajpura block by ensuring all basic medical facilities are fully functional and readily available at the local hospital.
