New Delhi – November 6: In a swift and decisive breakthrough against sophisticated executive spoofing scams, the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police has arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with an Rs 80-lakh ‘boss impersonation’ cyber fraud. In a major relief for the victimized educational institution, cyber investigators successfully secured the entire cheated sum by executing an immediate debit freeze and lien on the beneficiary account before the funds could be siphoned away.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Noushad, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. He was taken into custody on October 29 following technical analysis and financial tracking carried out by specialized cyber detectives.

Detailing the crackdown, Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) Gaurav Tyagi stated that the case was registered on October 27 on a formal complaint filed by Abhishek Jain, General Secretary of the Rishi Aurobindo Educational Society, which operates the Chander Prabhu Jain College of Higher Studies and School of Law in Narela.

According to investigators, the fraudsters deployed a classic ‘CEO fraud’ or ‘boss impersonation’ modus operandi. An unidentified operative created a WhatsApp profile utilizing the display photograph and name of a senior institutional executive. The imposter subsequently messaged the college accountant, issuing urgent directives to execute immediate financial transactions under the pretext of pressing institutional obligations.

Believing the WhatsApp instruction to be authentic, the college accountant transferred Rs 80 lakh from the society’s account to a commercial bank account held in the name of “M/s N S Traders” with a private bank. Once the deceit came to light, the society alerted law enforcement authorities.

Operating rapidly on banking audit trails, IFSO sleuths tracked the recipient bank account to Noushad, who operates as the proprietor of the trading firm. He was apprehended from Ghaziabad, and police immediately intervened with banking authorities to place a lien on the account, safeguarding the entire sum of Rs 80 lakh.

During initial interrogation, the accused disclosed the involvement of multiple associates operating as part of a wider cyber network utilizing mule and shell accounts. Police officials stated that active technical surveillance and verification are underway to identify, track, and apprehend the remaining conspirators behind the racket.
