NEW DELHI, October 12, 2026 – The national capital remains on high alert for the third consecutive day as over 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across Delhi. The massive security clampdown comes ahead of a planned protest march by opposition parties to the Supreme Court, intensifying their ongoing agitation against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Security has been significantly tightened at the city’s borders, railway stations, bus terminals, and other sensitive locations to prevent unauthorized gatherings. According to Delhi Police officials, more than 120 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) are actively assisting local law enforcement. The New Delhi district has been strategically divided into 20 security zones, continuously monitored by joint commissioners and deputy commissioners.
Strict preventive measures are in place across the capital. Police have intensified vehicle checks at all major border entry points and initiated strict verification drives at hotels, guest houses, and lodges. Furthermore, the entry and exit gates at six major Delhi Metro stations have been ordered shut until 4:00 PM to restrict crowd mobilization. Officials also confirmed that social media platforms are being heavily monitored to track attempts to mobilize protesters.
The opposition’s march to the Supreme Court aims to protest against alleged “vote chori” (vote theft) and demand the immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. This planned march follows a volatile weekend where thousands of protesters, including prominent leaders from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and former chief ministers, were placed under preventive detention.
The political storm targeting the CEC stems from recent media reports highlighting internal friction within the Election Commission of India. A recent report claimed that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had formally objected on record at least 14 times over the last 10 months, specifically raising concerns regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
