JAMMU, October 21, 2026 – On the auspicious eve of the birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh, Dr. Karan Singh, scion of the erstwhile royal Dogra family and former Sadr-e-Riyasat, issued a profound message paying tribute to the monumental historical contributions of the Dogra dynasty.
Dr. Singh described the creation of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State by Dogra warriors and rulers as one of the most significant political events of the 19th century. Extending his greetings and goodwill to the people, he recalled the immense personal sacrifices made by the Dogra rulers in building a vast multilingual, multicultural, and multi-ethnic state.
“Although the original State has now been fragmented, it continues to remain a strong northern frontier of which India can be proud,” he observed. He highlighted that for the Dogra community residing in Jammu and Himachal Pradesh, the creation of the erstwhile state represented a massive strategic contribution, as it successfully extended India’s frontiers all the way to Central Asia and Tibet.
In his homage to the military legacy of the Dogras, Dr. Karan Singh made a special mention of General Zorawar Singh, describing him as one of the world’s great military leaders whose unparalleled achievements remain firmly etched in global military history.
Reflecting on the present context, Dr. Singh shared an inspiring message for his community. “Although the Dogras remain a minority in the Union Territory, they must continue to strengthen and support the country and make such sacrifices as may be required from time to time. That would be our best homage to the memory of Maharaja Gulab Singh,” he concluded.
