NEW DELHI, September 24, 2026 – Amid a raging political controversy over reported internal differences within the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on the ruling establishment on Thursday. Taking to the social media platform X, Gandhi declared that the “enemies of the Constitution have been exposed” and asserted that “justice will be served,” while announcing a special press conference on the matter scheduled for 4 p.m. using the hashtag ‘#VoteChori’.
His latest remarks follow his aggressive stance on Wednesday, where he characterized the alleged manipulation of electoral rolls as a “direct attack on the Constitution” and a grave crime against the Indian populace, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and the Election Commission itself of committing an act of treason. The Congress leader’s intense assertions come in the wake of an investigative report by an English daily which revealed significant friction within the three-member polling panel.
According to the report, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi have formally registered their objections on record at least 14 times over the past ten months—including four times on a single day—regarding decisions taken and orders issued concerning the SIR process, allegedly without their prior knowledge or consent. While the national rollout of the SIR was supposed to be under the collective supervision of all three commissioners, including Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the reported dissent has handed the Opposition a major political weapon, sparking widespread demands for accountability, transparency, and a halt to the ongoing electoral roll revision process.
