SRINAGAR, September 25, 2026 – Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary apprised the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that the administration has initiated comprehensive measures to restore critical infrastructure damaged by recent cloudbursts and flash floods across the Union Territory. Responding on behalf of the Chief Minister to a query raised by MLA Shakti Raj Parihar, Choudhary detailed that roads and water supply schemes severely impacted during the 2025-26 period have already undergone temporary restoration, with permanent reconstruction works currently in progress. Similarly, infrastructure affected during the 2026-27 timeline has been partially restored, and permanent restoration projects are actively being executed across all affected districts to ensure long-term resilience against natural disasters. The Deputy Chief Minister clarified that while no separate special rehabilitation package has been sanctioned, the affected residents are receiving requisite financial assistance in strict accordance with the norms established under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
To further alleviate the distress of the impacted communities, Choudhary highlighted that the Chief Minister has stepped in to provide crucial additional financial aid through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, specifically targeting those whose residential structures suffered damage. Citing specific regional interventions, he informed the House that following the devastating cloudburst at Chishoti in Kishtwar district during 2025-26, the government disbursed ₹1 lakh each to 16 households whose homes were completely damaged, and ₹25,000 each to three families with partially damaged houses. Furthermore, a substantial amount of ₹108 lakh has been allocated and released for Kishtwar for the 2026-27 period. In Rajouri district, the administration has successfully released ₹281 lakh under the CM’s Relief Fund to actively assist 377 beneficiaries who faced structural damage. Reaffirming the administration’s core resolve, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the government remains fully committed to ensuring the swift and timely restoration of all essential public utilities, extending necessary financial relief to victims, and expediting the completion of permanent infrastructural works in all ecologically vulnerable areas.
