NEW DELHI, September 30, 2026 – Underscoring a strategic push toward technological self-reliance, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, asserted on Wednesday that India’s emerging quantum ecosystem is being significantly strengthened by the enabling policies of the Modi Government. The Minister stated that these progressive policies are actively creating greater space for industry players, innovators, and the private sector to participate and lead in the development of frontier deep-tech technologies.
Addressing the PRAGATI Q-FOUNDRY 2026 event organized by the Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Singh highlighted the rapid strides the nation has made under the ambitious National Quantum Mission (NQM). During the high-profile gathering, which brought together senior scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, industry representatives, and strategic users, the Minister unveiled 10 new quantum technologies alongside 9 pioneering startups and multiple strategic partnerships. He emphasized that the government’s comprehensive support to quantum startups is not merely limited to financial funding but crucially extends to providing robust infrastructure, active mentorship, and rigorous technology validation platforms. “Supportive ecosystems are giving India’s quantum startups the confidence to build, scale up, and compete globally,” Dr. Singh remarked.
In a major announcement highlighting the mission’s expanding footprint, Dr. Singh revealed that the NQM’s direct support to quantum startups has now expanded from 17 to 26 promising ventures. He further lauded the country’s scientific achievements, noting that India has successfully achieved a 1,000-km quantum secure communication capability in just about three years, rapidly advancing against the 2,000-km target initially set for the eight-year mission. The Minister expressed strong optimism that India possesses the inherent potential to become globally competitive in the critical fields of Quantum Communication and Sensing, and entirely self-reliant in Quantum Computing. Calling upon all stakeholders to move forward with clear commitments and specific timelines, Dr. Singh concluded that the National Quantum Mission has successfully laid a solid foundation for India to build globally relevant quantum technologies and robust national capabilities for the future.
