J&K Government Staggers Despite Unprecedented Support From Centre: BJP MLA R.S. Pathania

UDHAMPUR, October 15, 2026 – Launching a sharp critique against the local administration, senior BJP leader and MLA from Udhampur East, Ranbir Singh Pathania, accused the Jammu and Kashmir Government of failing to capitalize on the massive financial and developmental support extended by the Government of India.

Pathania warned that the Union Territory is at risk of missing a historic opportunity to transform its developmental landscape due to what he termed as “administrative inertia, inadequate financial management, and a lack of accountability and work culture.”

Referring to alarming reports indicating that approximately ₹34,000 crore in funds remains unspent, alongside critical observations made by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), the BJP leader stated that the current situation demands serious introspection and immediate corrective measures within the administrative machinery.

Pathania strongly advocated for establishing robust institutional mechanisms to examine these audit observations, fix responsibility for established lapses, and take time-bound corrective actions against any financial irregularities and administrative shortcomings. Furthermore, he raised serious concerns over the controversial outsourcing of manpower across various government departments, stressing the urgent need for transparency, rationalization, and strict accountability in staffing and deployment.

Later in the day, shifting focus to grassroots development, Pathania laid the foundation stones for two significant infrastructure projects in Udhampur East with a combined outlay of ₹89.03 lakh. These include the construction of a much-needed First Aid Centre for Animal Husbandry at Panchayat Roun-I (tendered at ₹69.03 lakh) and a road connecting Baba Mahadev Mandir to Village Barneah (Phase-I) under the UT Capex 2026-27 scheme (approved at ₹20 lakh). Both projects are being executed by the PWD (R&B) Division, Udhampur.

The MLA concluded his day by meeting with several public delegations at his office, interacting with local residents and mandal pradhans to address pressing civic issues related to drinking water, electricity supply, and healthcare amenities.
