JAMMU, August 12, 2026 – Jammu and Kashmir has received over ₹4,100 crore in central funds under the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) over the last five financial years. Furthermore, nearly 25 lakh families across the Union Territory are now covered under Ayushman Bharat health insurance schemes.
The details were presented in the Rajya Sabha by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav in response to a query regarding the district-wise implementation of major central healthcare schemes in Jammu and Kashmir.
Under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which provides health cover of ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization, J&K has implemented the scheme in convergence with AB-PMJAY Sehat. Out of the 25 lakh covered families, 6.70 lakh are enrolled under AB-PMJAY, while the remaining eligible families receive health coverage exclusively under AB-PMJAY Sehat.
1.Surge in NHM Funding:
Central releases under the National Health Mission to J&K have seen a steady increase over the last five financial years, rising from ₹459.10 crore in 2021-22 to ₹651.52 crore in 2022-23, ₹805.22 crore in 2023-24, ₹1,040.76 crore in 2024-25, and ₹1,017.14 crore in 2025-26.
2.PM-ABHIM Support:
Under PM-ABHIM, J&K received ₹16.11 crore in 2021-22, ₹1 crore in 2022-23, ₹44.01 crore in 2023-24, ₹60.44 crore in 2024-25, and ₹49.69 crore in 2025-26 to support Sub-Health Centres, Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Block Public Health Units, and Integrated District Public Health Laboratories.
3.Expansion of Telemedicine:
Telemedicine services have expanded significantly across J&K, with the eSanjeevani platform recording 1,885,362 teleconsultations by July 2026. Additionally, 3,174 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, including AAM-AYUSH facilities, are currently operational across the UT.

Official data reveals high utilization of the health insurance scheme across all districts during the five-year period from 2021-22 to 2025-26:

- Budgam: 1,33,206 admissions
- Pulwama: 1,14,591 admissions

- Kulgam: 87,745 admissions
- Udhampur: 81,836 admissions
- Poonch: 76,870 admissions
- Kathua: 74,310 admissions
- Rajouri: 72,407 admissions
- Doda: 69,418 admissions
- Kishtwar: 27,623 admissions
The Health Ministry noted that Central support under the National Health Mission continues to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, human resources, and accessibility across Jammu and Kashmir based on Programme Implementation Plans submitted by the UT administration.
