JKTDC Employees’ Protest Dharna Enters 8th Day in Jammu; Demands Escalated

JAMMU, October 6, 2026 – Frustration continues to mount as the indefinite protest dharna organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) Employees Union entered its eighth consecutive day on Monday in Jammu. The protesting employees are demanding the immediate resolution of several long-pending service, financial, and administrative issues that have been plaguing the workforce.

The agitating employees have made it clear that verbal assurances from the administration are no longer acceptable, stressing the urgent need for tangible, concrete action on their demands. The core issues highlighted during the ongoing protest include the release of pending salaries, prompt regularisation of eligible employees, and the implementation of a comprehensive revival plan for the JKTDC to ensure the financial security of its staff.

The ongoing agitation has garnered significant support from various other unions and associations across the Union Territory. The Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA) formally extended its support to the protesting JKTDC employees. Furthermore, the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) Jammu, led by its president Mohammed Ashraf Sheikh, has also backed the protest. Sheikh has strongly urged the Chief Minister to personally intervene in the matter and ensure an amicable settlement of the pressing issues faced by the tourism sector employees.

As the dharna continues, the functioning of the JKTDC remains affected, prompting calls from civil society for the government to initiate a meaningful dialogue with the union representatives to break the deadlock and restore normalcy in the corporation’s operations.
