Over 14 Crore Needy People in Uttar Pradesh Receive Nutritional Support Under Food Security Drive

LUCKNOW, October 13, 2026 – In a massive push towards ensuring food security and eradicating malnutrition, the Uttar Pradesh government, through its Department of Food and Civil Supplies, is successfully distributing transparent and regular foodgrains to over 14 crore beneficiaries across the state.

Driven by the state’s commitment to the all-round development of Antyodaya—uplifting individuals at the lowest rung of society—the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Uttar Pradesh has emerged as one of the most reliable models in the country. According to the latest figures released by the department, foodgrains are being regularly distributed to a staggering 14,71,04,181 beneficiaries, covering 3,67,52,818 ration cardholder families statewide.

The Yogi Adityanath-led government ensures uninterrupted ration supplies without any discrimination based on caste, class, or region. Among the 18 administrative divisions in the state, the Lucknow Division has secured the top spot for the efficient implementation of food security measures. Within this division’s six districts, over 1.72 crore members from approximately 45.24 lakh families receive direct and regular benefits. The coverage extends deeply into vast rural districts like Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Hardoi, ensuring 100 percent coverage of over 31 lakh to 34 lakh citizens in these areas.

A critical factor in the success of this massive distribution network has been the government’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy against corruption. Issues that plagued the system for decades—such as underweight ration distribution, cards issued to ineligible beneficiaries, and black marketing—have been systematically eradicated. This was achieved by installing E-PoS (Electronic Point of Sale) machines at every fair-price shop and mandating biometric verification, ensuring every grain reaches the intended beneficiary.

Furthermore, aligning with the Center’s National Food Security Policy, the state government has successfully implemented ration card portability. This initiative allows poor workers and migrant laborers who leave their home districts to receive their entitled rations from any fair-price shop across the state or the country.

Under the scheme, Antyodaya family cardholders receive a regular allocation of 35 kilograms of foodgrains, while eligible household families receive 5 kilograms per unit. Freed from the daily anxiety of food security, marginalized families are now empowered to invest their savings in better education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities.
