Police Bust Illegal Liquor Manufacturing Unit in Doda; Equipment and Raw Materials Seized

DODA, July 17, 2026 — In a major crackdown on the production and sale of illicit alcohol, the Jammu and Kashmir Police busted an illegal liquor manufacturing unit operating in the Bhagwah area of Doda district on Thursday.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the clandestine production of illicit country-made liquor, a police team led by the Incharge of Police Post Bhagwah, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Doda, conducted a targeted raid.

The Raid and Recoveries

The raid was carried out at the residence of Rita Devi, wife of Mohan Singh, in the Gaddan area of Bhagwah. According to police officials, the premises were allegedly being used as a full-scale manufacturing hub for illicit brewing.

During a thorough search of the property, the police team recovered and seized approximately 10 litres of freshly prepared illicit country-made liquor. More significantly, the raiding party dismantled the entire production setup, confiscating various utensils, distillation apparatus, and other specialized equipment used in the manufacturing process.

Additionally, the police recovered around 10 kilograms of jaggery (gur) from the site, which was reportedly being used as the primary raw material for brewing the illicit alcohol.

Legal Action Initiated

Following the successful raid and the seizure of the contraband and equipment, the Police Station Doda immediately registered an FIR (Number 199/2026) under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act.

Authorities have launched a further investigation into the matter to trace the wider network involved in the production and distribution of illicit liquor in the district, which poses a severe risk to public health and safety.
