MOHALI, September 20, 2026 – Emphasizing his government’s steadfast commitment to accessible public healthcare, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Sunday that a substantial ₹1,310 crore has already been spent on the medical treatment of over seven lakh patients under the state’s flagship Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna. Speaking at a card distribution function for the scheme in Mohali, Mann highlighted that the ambitious initiative provides free, cashless medical coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family. Calling it an unprecedented, unconditional, and entirely free healthcare model, the Chief Minister stated that the primary objective is to ensure that no family is ever forced into debilitating financial debt or distress due to medical emergencies. He proudly contrasted Punjab’s progressive approach with international models, noting that while citizens in many developed countries are burdened with costly health insurance premiums, Punjab is actively providing comprehensive cashless treatment without imposing any financial strain on the beneficiaries.
During his address, the Chief Minister linked the success of the Sehat Yojna to the broader strengthening of the state’s healthcare infrastructure, particularly the operationalization of a massive network of 1,100 ‘Aam Aadmi Clinics’. According to Mann, these localized clinics have successfully recorded approximately 5.5 crore Outpatient Department (OPD) visits, effectively bringing essential primary healthcare services directly to residential areas and remote neighborhoods. Highlighting the cumulative economic impact of the AAP government’s welfare initiatives, Mann claimed that schemes such as the Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, the free bus travel scheme for women, the Meri Rasoi scheme, and the regulation of private school fees are collectively saving an average family around ₹1.82 lakh annually. Utilizing the platform to target the political opposition, Mann sharply criticized the BJP-led Central Government, accusing it of deliberately withholding legitimate funds due to Punjab. However, he firmly assured the public that despite these alleged financial hurdles, the state government has successfully plugged revenue leakages and will continue to fund crucial welfare initiatives without ever claiming that the state treasury is empty.
