Shaheed Kissan Baba Jitto Sangharsh Samiti Launches ‘Sankalp Patra’ Campaign Seeking Recognition for Baba Jitto Ji

JAMMU, November 3, 2026 – To intensify the movement demanding state-level recognition for the 15th-century historical personalities Baba Jitto Ji and Bua Kodi Ji, the Shaheed Kissan Baba Jitto Sangharsh Samiti today formally launched a ‘Sankalp Patra’ (Resolution Letter) distribution campaign from the sacred Jhiri Devsthan.

The campaign was initiated after Samiti President Partap Singh Jamwal, accompanied by other office-bearers, visited the Devsthan, offered the Sankalp Patra at the feet of Baba Jitto Ji, and sought blessings following traditional prayers conducted by the temple priests.

The newly issued Sankalp Patra outlines several key demands aimed at cementing the legacy of the revered figures in official historical records. The Samiti’s primary demands include naming an agricultural university after Baba Jitto Ji, incorporating his history and supreme sacrifice into school curricula, and officially installing a signboard identifying the Baba Jitto Indoor Stadium established at the Jhiri Devsthan.

Addressing the gathering, President Partap Singh Jamwal questioned the administrative delay in granting appropriate recognition to the historical figures. “When the government is actively naming schools, parks, and government buildings after martyrs and national personalities, there should be no delay in giving Baba Jitto Ji his rightful place in history,” Jamwal asserted.

He highlighted that Baba Jitto Ji, a 15th-century saint and farmer leader who sacrificed his life fighting for the rights of farmers against feudal exploitation, is deeply revered across North India. “Considering his historical legacy, supreme sacrifice, and the faith of millions of devotees, the government must grant appropriate state-level and historical recognition to Baba Jitto Ji and Bua Kodi Ji,” he added.

Jamwal also raised concerns regarding the upcoming Jhiri Mela—one of North India’s major religious fairs. He urged the government to formulate a special plan for the overall development of the Jhiri Devsthan, emphasizing the need to improve ground-level facilities, upgrade infrastructure, and preserve the historical heritage of the site, which attracts lakhs of devotees annually and significantly boosts the local economy.

Appealing to the local MLA and elected representatives from adjoining areas, Jamwal called for a unified political effort to protect Jammu’s historical heritage and strongly raise these demands before the government.

The Samiti announced that the Sankalp Patra distribution campaign will now move from the Devsthan into local neighborhoods, aiming to reach every household to garner widespread public support for the cause.

The event witnessed the presence of several prominent leaders and local figures, including Surinder Singh Gilli (Founder YRS & BJP Leader), Shanker Singh Chib (President JKKEM), Mahant Hari Dutt Sharma (Jhiri Mahant), Garu Sharma, Neeraj Langeh, Aman Sharma, Sidhant Sharma, Naryan Sharma, and Th. Dev Karan.
