CHANDIGARH, September 30, 2026 – Intensifying the probe into the multi-crore synthetic drugs racket, a Punjab Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) has summoned senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia for questioning on October 5. In a significant development, the SIT has also summoned the key accused in the case, dismissed Punjab Police cop and former wrestler Jagdish Singh Bhola, on the same date. The simultaneous summons have raised strong possibilities that investigators may question Majithia and Bhola face-to-face for the first time to cross-examine their testimonies regarding the high-profile drug network.
The summons revive scrutiny of a massive narcotics case whose financial trail, previously investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), pegged the associated money laundering and drug operations at an estimated Rs 6,000 crore. Majithia’s name first surfaced during the unearthing of the Bhola drug racket in 2013-14, after Punjab Police seized drugs worth Rs 20 crore from Bhola’s residence in November 2013. Bhola subsequently named the former Akali minister in 2014. Based on a 2018 report by the anti-drug Special Task Force that recommended a further probe, the Punjab Police had booked Majithia under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in December 2021. A voluminous 40,000-page chargesheet was later filed against him in 2025. Majithia has consistently denied any involvement, maintaining that the case against him is politically motivated. The latest summons arrives amid a politically charged atmosphere, coinciding with Majithia recently raising issues concerning the alleged misuse of official residences by current state ministers.
