NEW DELHI, October 31, 2026 – A fresh plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the constitution of an independent committee or commission to ascertain whether the newly constructed Ram Temple in Ayodhya stands precisely on the 2.77 acres of land adjudicated in the historic 2019 apex court verdict.
Filed by the ‘Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Case Trust’, the petition is scheduled to be heard on November 2, 2026, before a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V Mohana.
The plea calls for an independent survey and demarcation of the temple premises. It urges the Supreme Court to appoint a committee of qualified revenue, archaeological, and technical experts to verify the “exact boundaries, coordinates, extent, and location” of the land upon which the temple has been developed.
“Direct constitution of an appropriate independent court-appointed committee/commission… for the purpose of determining whether the temple presently constructed/developed is situated upon the exact premises and land adjudicated by this court,” the petition states. It further adds that if any material discrepancies are found between the 2019 judgment boundaries and the current temple construction, appropriate directions should be issued to ensure the mandate of the original verdict is faithfully implemented.
The landmark November 9, 2019 verdict, delivered by a five-judge Constitution bench, had unanimously paved the way for the construction of the Ram Temple at the disputed site by handing the 2.77-acre land to a central government receiver, later transferred to the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Concurrently, it directed the Centre to allot a prominent alternative five-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for the construction of a new mosque.
Beyond verifying the geographical coordinates, the current plea has also sought judicial directives directed at the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust to preserve and produce all original documents, maps, plans, and surveys relating to the temple’s development.
To ensure complete financial transparency, the petition additionally appeals for the daily digitization and continuous public display of all donations, offerings, and receipts. It also seeks a mandatory annual financial audit of the temple’s accounts by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) to prevent any potential misappropriation of funds. Furthermore, the plea advocates for improved facilities to manage the massive influx of international and domestic devotees visiting the holy site.
