JAMMU, October 30, 2026 – Bringing laurels to the region, two students from the University of Jammu (JU) have been selected to participate in the prestigious national-level ‘Know Your Leader’ programme. The initiative is organized by the Lok Sabha Secretariat and is scheduled to be held at the Parliament of India on October 31, 2026, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The selected students, Anshika Gandhi from The Law School and Narayan Choudhary from the pioneering ‘Design Your Degree’ (DYD) programme, will represent the University of Jammu on this national stage. The event brings together promising young minds from across the country to pay tribute to national leaders and provides them with firsthand exposure to India’s highest democratic institutions.
Congratulating the students, JU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai stated that their selection was a matter of immense pride for the university, reflecting the high potential of JU students on national platforms.
Prof. Rai emphasized the broader role of educational institutions, noting that they must do more than just impart academic knowledge; they have a responsibility to prepare the youth to become informed, responsible, and active citizens. He highlighted that initiatives like ‘Know Your Leader’ offer students a unique opportunity to learn about the monumental contributions and values of the nation’s founding leaders.
The Vice-Chancellor advised Anshika and Narayan to make meaningful use of this rare opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of India’s democratic traditions, constitutional values, and parliamentary procedures. He encouraged them to draw lifelong inspiration from the ideals of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, particularly his unyielding commitment to national unity, integrity, and public service.
Prof. Rai also expressed his hope that the two representatives would share their parliamentary experiences with their peers upon their return, thereby benefiting the larger student community.
The congratulatory event was attended by prominent university officials, including Dr. Neeraj Sharma (Registrar, JU), Prof. Prakash C. Antahal (Dean Students Welfare), Prof. Manju Jamwal (Director, The Law School), Prof. Alka Sharma (Director, SIIEDC), and Prof. Monika Chadha (Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee).
