AIIMS Jammu Hosts 4th National Conference ‘PNNFICON 2026’ on 21st-Century Pediatric and Neonatal Care

Jammu – November 6: Advancing academic excellence and specialized clinical practices in pediatric and newborn medicine, the College of Nursing at AIIMS Jammu, in collaboration with the Paediatric & Neonatal Nurses Forum, India (PNNFI), hosted the 4th National Conference, ‘PNNFICON 2026’, at the institute’s Convention Centre in Vijaypur, Jammu.

Organized around the focal theme “Pediatric & Neonatal Care in the 21st Century – Innovation, Research, Collaboration,” the three-day national conclave served as a premier academic forum to elevate evidence-based nursing protocols, upgrade clinical competencies, and build multidisciplinary partnerships. The event drew an impressive gathering of senior nursing clinicians, healthcare researchers, medical academicians, and postgraduate scholars from leading medical institutions nationwide.

The conference was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Sinha, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, who presided as the Chief Guest. Dr. Sandeep Singh, Registrar of the J&K Nursing Council, and Dr. Deepika C. Khakha, former Nursing Advisor to the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, attended as Guests of Honour. The mega-event was steered under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Rimple Sharma, Principal of the College of Nursing, AIIMS Jammu.

Addressing the plenary assembly, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Sinha highlighted the indispensable role of nursing professionals in delivering high-acuity, safe, and empathetic healthcare, particularly in delicate pediatric and neonatal units. He underscored that specialized nurses serve as the first line of defense in early detection of clinical deterioration, strict infection prevention, precision in pediatric drug administration, and vital psychosocial family counseling during critical treatment phases.

A major cornerstone of the conference was a series of five intensive pre-conference clinical workshops offering immersive, simulation-based training. Modules addressed critical pediatric competencies including neonatal resuscitation, developmental supportive care, precision thermoregulation, breastfeeding and nutritional strategies, critical care monitoring equipment and bundle care, as well as complex drug dosage calculation and fluid preparation protocols.

The comprehensive scientific agenda featured detailed symposia spanning preventive pediatrics, national immunization schedules, advanced neonatal intensive care (NICU) practices, congenital defect interventions, and cutting-edge pediatric research. The conference culminated in an interactive poster and research paper competition, alongside a valedictory session honouring distinguished clinical contributions and scholarly innovations in neonatal nursing.
