NEW DELHI, September 16, 2026 – Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth has embarked on a significant three-day official visit to Russia, starting Wednesday, aimed at deepening the longstanding defence partnership and strengthening military-to-military cooperation between the two nations. The high-level visit focuses on expanding the strategic alignment and exploring new avenues for contemporary military engagement. Upon his arrival in Moscow, the Army Chief is scheduled to receive a ceremonial Guard of Honour and pay his respects to fallen soldiers at the iconic ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier’.
During his three-day tour, General Seth will hold extensive discussions with Colonel General Andrei Nikolayevich Mordvichev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Land Forces. The bilateral talks will primarily focus on issues of mutual strategic interest, including advancing professional military cooperation, joint training initiatives, and analyzing contemporary military developments. These interactions aim to build upon the robust foundation of trust and shared security objectives that have historically defined India-Russia defence relations.
In addition to his engagements with the Russian Land Forces, the Army Chief is slated to visit the National Defence Control Centre in Moscow. He will also interact with senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Defence, including Deputy Minister of Defence Sergeyevich Osmakov, whose portfolio encompasses the defence industry and procurement. These high-level meetings are expected to provide a vital platform for both nations to exchange views on regional and global security dynamics while further enhancing their collaborative efforts in defence technology, capacity building, and military procurement.
