BSF Woman Constable Critically Injured by Gunshot From Own Service Rifle in R.S. Pura Sector

JAMMU, October 7, 2026 – A 27-year-old female constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) was critically injured on Wednesday afternoon after sustaining a gunshot wound from her own service rifle at a forward post near the India-Pakistan International Border in Jammu district.

The incident took place at approximately 3:00 PM at Border Outpost (BOP) Sushil, located in the R.S. Pura sector. Official sources identified the injured personnel as Constable Rajlakshmi (also reported as Raj Lakshmi). Upon hearing the gunshot, fellow BSF personnel immediately rushed to the spot and found her severely injured.

She was immediately evacuated and provided emergency first-aid at the Sub-District Hospital in R.S. Pura. Considering the critical nature of her injuries, attending doctors quickly referred her to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu for specialized and advanced medical treatment.

The exact circumstances leading to the firing remain unclear at this stage. BSF officials stated that an investigation has been launched to determine how the weapon discharged. “It is premature to say whether the constable deliberately fired the weapon or whether it was an accidental discharge,” a senior official remarked, noting that a Court of Inquiry is expected to be ordered to ascertain the exact sequence of events.

Senior BSF officers and local police authorities have visited the medical facility to inquire about the constable’s health and ensure she receives the best possible medical care.
