JAMMU, October 10, 2026 – Emphasizing the transformative impact of modern technology on the travel industry, the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, School of Business Studies at the Central University of Jammu (CUJ), organized a significant academia-industry meet on Friday. The event was held to commemorate World Tourism Day 2026 and focused on the theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”
The gathering brought together leading academicians, government representatives, tourism industry professionals, and media personnel to discuss the strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital tools in promoting and managing tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Aijaz Qiaser, Joint Director at the Directorate of Tourism and the Chief Guest for the occasion, highlighted the immense potential of AI in personalizing travel experiences. He noted that digital platforms could play a pivotal role in showcasing Jammu and Kashmir’s breathtaking natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and untapped tourism destinations to a global audience.
CUJ Registrar Prof. Yashwant Singh echoed these sentiments, stating that the adoption of AI into tourism operations has evolved from a luxury to a “strategic necessity” for the future of the sector. Adding to this, Prof. Neelika Arora, Dean of the School of Business Studies, cautioned that while AI is crucial for making tourism smarter, more personalized, and highly sustainable, the “human element” must always remain at its core.
A major highlight of the meet was a high-level panel discussion exploring the practical applications of data analytics, digital platforms, and AI-based tools in destination management, heritage conservation, and authentic storytelling. Moderated by Dr. Ranjeet Raman, the panel featured prominent voices including S.M. Sahni, former JKAS officer and Convenor of INTACH Jammu Chapter; Vaibhav Sharma, Founder and CEO of Travellers Dost; Vikas Manhas, Founder and CEO of Enjoy Unlimited Holidays; and RJ Sarang from 91.9 Red FM.
The panelists unanimously stressed that technology should be leveraged to unearth and promote Jammu’s lesser-known historical narratives and heritage spots. They agreed that digital tools should complement, rather than replace, human efforts in bringing the region’s cultural richness to a wider demographic.
Beyond the academic discussions, the event vibrantly celebrated local culture. It featured traditional folk dances and a cultural ramp walk showcasing the ethnic attire of various communities. Furthermore, participants had the opportunity to explore a specialized exhibition displaying exquisite calico print products by Minna Dubey of Silpini and sustainable bamboo-based crafts by Meenakshi of Okobambus Pvt. Ltd.
