JAMMU, October 10, 2026 – In a significant administrative overhaul of the police hierarchy, the Lieutenant Governor administration of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday ordered a massive reshuffle involving the transfer and posting of 100 police officers. The Home Department issued a comprehensive order affecting 28 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and 72 Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) officers across the Union Territory.
Among the prominent top-level changes, Danesh Rana, a 1996 batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, has been appointed as the Managing Director of the J&K Police Housing Corporation, relieving SJM Gillani of his additional charge. Garib Dass (1997 batch), previously the Director of SKPA Udhampur, has been posted as Additional Director General (ADG) of Home Guards, Civil Defence & SDRF.
Several crucial district and range command assignments were also reassigned. Shiv Kumar Sharma (2011 batch) has been transferred from DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range and posted as DIG Railways, while Swarn Singh Kotwal (2012 batch) will take over the DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range. Meanwhile, Abdul Jabbar (2008 batch) assumes the role of Inspector General (IG) Armed Police, Jammu, and Dr. Mohammad Haseeb Mughal (2009 batch) takes charge as Director of SKPA Udhampur.
The extensive reshuffle has also led to a significant reorganization of Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in sensitive districts. Sudhanshu Dhama (2016 batch) moves from SSP Ganderbal to SSP Kupwara, replacing Syed Al Tahir Gillani, who transitions to SSP PCR Kashmir. Harshal Rajesh Mahajan (2022 batch) will assume the role of SSP Ganderbal.
In other notable postings, Vaibhav Meena (2022 batch) has been appointed as SSP Poonch, Neha Jain (2022 batch) takes over as SSP Sopore, and Anna Sinha (2022 batch) has been designated as SSP Ramban. Several commanders within the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP) and the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) battalions were also reassigned to strengthen field operations and security architecture.
The massive realignment is viewed as a strategic measure by the administration to inject fresh momentum into the police administration, bolster regional security frameworks, and optimize the operational capabilities of the force across the region.
