JAMMU, September 9, 2026 – A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel is in critical condition after allegedly shooting himself in the head with his own service weapon at the Jammu Airport. The incident, which occurred outside the airport’s busy exit gate, triggered immediate panic among passengers and staff present at the terminal.
1.The Incident at the Exit Gate:
The jawan, identified by officials as Sunil Jasrotia, was actively deployed on security duty at the airport’s exit gate when the incident occurred on Tuesday. According to preliminary reports, Jasrotia used his officially issued service rifle to shoot himself in the head. The sudden gunshot caused severe alarm across the premises, prompting his on-duty colleagues to immediately rush to the scene.
2.Emergency Medical Response:
Upon hearing the gunshot, fellow CISF personnel found Jasrotia lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately evacuated from the airport premises and rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu for emergency medical intervention. Attending physicians have reported his condition to be highly critical as he undergoes extensive treatment.
3.Investigation Initiated:
Sunil Jasrotia is a native resident of the Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir. The exact circumstances and underlying reasons that led the jawan to allegedly take this extreme step remain completely unknown at this stage. A formal investigation has been launched by the authorities to ascertain the events leading up to the tragic incident.
The CISF and local police are currently recording statements from his colleagues and reviewing security protocols at the airport following the security breach caused by the gunfire.
