NEW DELHI, October 3, 2026 – In a major pre-Diwali crackdown on the illegal sale and transportation of banned fireworks, the Delhi Police successfully seized approximately 2,101 kg of illegal firecrackers from two vehicles and a hidden storage facility in outer-north Delhi on Saturday. The operation resulted in the apprehension of three individuals connected to the illicit trade.
The police acted on specific intelligence inputs regarding a large consignment of firecrackers being transported from Haryana into the national capital via the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Bawana. On October 1, intercepting teams stopped two tempo vehicles suspected of carrying the contraband. Upon inspection, authorities recovered around 1,350 kg of firecrackers from the tempos and immediately apprehended the two drivers. The drivers were identified as Amit Gupta (42) and Sunil (42), both residents of Bindapur in Uttam Nagar.
Following the initial seizure, a rapid follow-up investigation led law enforcement to an additional illegal storage godown located in Alipur. A raid on the facility uncovered another 751 kg of banned firecrackers. Police apprehended a third individual, identified as 34-year-old Manoj Kumar from Tilak Nagar, who was found managing the godown at the time of the raid.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosives Act, with formal charges filed on October 2. The police have stated that strict legal action will be taken against those involved, and further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and identify other possible storage locations across the city.
