Dr. Jitendra Singh Inaugurates Army Mega Medical Speciality Camp at Basantgarh

BASANTGARH (UDHAMPUR), October 19, 2026 – Bringing critical healthcare services to the doorsteps of those in remote regions, Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated an Army Mega Medical Speciality Camp in Basantgarh on Sunday.

The massive health initiative, organized with the full logistical support of the Army’s Northern Command and the civil administration, aimed to provide vital medical consultations and specialist diagnostic services to the residents of Basantgarh and its adjoining far-flung areas, where routine access to advanced healthcare remains a challenge.

During his address, Dr. Jitendra Singh laid strong emphasis on the early detection of preventable diseases, continuous medical surveillance, and improved overall healthcare access. Around 1,000 patients were thoroughly examined on the very first day of the camp, and with another 1,000-1,500 patients expected on the second day, the total reach of the camp is projected to cross 2,500 beneficiaries.

A notable finding from the initial health screenings revealed that nearly 50 percent of the medical cases were related to ophthalmology, with cataracts forming a substantial portion. Noting that cataract is easily treatable, Dr. Singh stressed that timely diagnosis and medical intervention are paramount to preventing avoidable blindness in such rural terrains.

To ensure the impact of the camp goes beyond a one-time intervention, the Minister proposed the preparation of a comprehensive feedback report. This report, generated in consultation with the local district administration and health authorities, will catalog the most frequent preventable disorders in the region to guide future medical camps and targeted health policies.

Furthermore, Dr. Singh proposed a system of weekly rotational visits by specialized doctors to Basantgarh until regular, permanent medical appointments are secured. He directed Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Ananth Dwivedi, and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anil Manhas to establish a systematic patient register to document cases, track ongoing medical requirements, and facilitate smooth referrals to hospitals in Ramnagar, Udhampur, or advanced military hospitals as needed.

The inauguration program witnessed the attendance of key dignitaries including Ramnagar MLA Dr. Sunil Bhardwaj, top Army officers, dedicated medical professionals, and local representatives. Dr. Singh concluded by commending the Indian Army and the civil administration for their seamless collaboration, describing the medical camp as a shining example of their joint commitment to public welfare.
