Dr. Jitendra Singh Leads E-Waste Disposal Drive at DoPT Under Special Swachhata Campaign 6.0

NEW DELHI, October 22, 2026 – Emphasizing the systematic disposal of electronic scrap and unlocking the residual value of obsolete office equipment, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh participated in a major e-waste disposal activity at the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) headquarters on Wednesday.

The initiative is part of the ongoing Special Swachhata Campaign 6.0, an intensive one-month cleanliness drive running from Gandhi Jayanti to Patel Jayanti. Speaking at Kartavya Bhawan, Dr. Singh highlighted that the campaign is designed to reinforce daily cleanliness practices through focused action.

A significant learning from previous campaign editions, he noted, has been the substantial revenue generated from disposing of unused items and scrap. In the current edition alone, the systematic disposal of scrap generated approximately Rs 490 crore within the first 15-17 days, a figure Dr. Singh expects to double by the campaign’s conclusion on October 31.

The Minister pointed out a crucial shift in the government’s approach: unlike previous years when scrap was sent to the market without uniform processes, the current campaign utilizes the GeM Portal for transparent and efficient disposal. This ensures that obsolete equipment is not merely discarded as waste, but its residual value is properly realized.

Dr. Singh addressed the common workplace practice of discarding entire computer sets when only a single component malfunctions. Highlighting the scale of the current drive, he mentioned that 152 desktops, 35 printers, 59 UPS units, and 52 air conditioners were among the items identified for disposal.

As part of the DoPT’s specific exercise, three auction notices covering IT equipment, electrical appliances, and furniture were floated on the GeM Portal on September 30. With a combined recommended reserve price of around Rs 9 lakh, the inventory includes everything from workstations to refrigerators.

Secretary, DoPT, Rachna Shah, and other senior officials actively participated alongside the Minister in this massive drive, seamlessly combining the objectives of workplace cleanliness with sustainable asset management.
