Congress to Mobilise J&K Units for Nov 1 Delhi Rally Over Alleged Voter Deletions: Nagra

SRINAGAR, October 22, 2026 – Stepping up its nationwide campaign on electoral integrity, the Congress party has announced plans to mobilize its units across Jammu and Kashmir for a massive rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1.

The mobilization is part of the party’s ‘Vote Bachao-Desh Bachao’ (Save Vote, Save Country) campaign, aimed at protesting alleged irregularities in the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls.

Addressing a press conference in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, All India Congress Committee (AICC) observer for J&K, Kuljit Singh Nagra, alleged that the SIR exercise was being misused to systematically delete voters’ names from electoral rolls. He claimed that an estimated 13 crore votes had been deleted across the country under this process.

Detailing the action plan, Nagra stated he would be visiting five districts across the Union Territory to thoroughly review grassroots preparations, meet with senior leaders, and strategize with District Congress Committees. “I will go to all five districts and discuss the programmes planned by the Congress and the INDIA bloc, from the booth level to the district and state levels,” he noted, adding that a comprehensive report will be submitted to the party high command.

The current phase of the campaign, which began on October 20, involves protest marches followed by block and booth-level meetings. To oversee these preparations, senior leaders from various states have been appointed as observers across different districts.

During the briefing, Nagra reiterated that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi have repeatedly raised serious concerns regarding alleged voter deletions and the potential misuse of electronic voting machines (EVMs). He pointed out that the party leadership had previously presented what it described as evidence of electoral irregularities.

Nagra also questioned the legal safeguards available to the Chief Election Commissioner, stating that no individual should be beyond the reach of the Constitution and the law. Furthermore, he raised concerns over the delimitation process in connection with women’s reservation, a move the Congress and the INDIA bloc heavily debated in Parliament.

The upcoming meetings with party leaders in Jammu and Kashmir will focus extensively on amplifying campaign activities and ensuring strong regional participation in the November 1 rally in the national capital.
