NEW DELHI, September 8, 2026 – Lex Delles, the Minister of the Economy, SME, Energy, and Tourism for the Government of Luxembourg, called on Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Monday during his official visit to India. The high-level bilateral meeting focused on identifying concrete areas of collaboration between the two nations, with a primary emphasis on the space sector, alongside emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum technologies, and life sciences.
The discussions aim to develop specific inputs and a proposed collaborative mechanism ahead of the planned State Visit of Luxembourg to India in January 2027.
1.Deepening the Space Partnership:
Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that space remains a crucial pillar of the India-Luxembourg bilateral relationship, anchored by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2022 for the peaceful exploration of outer space. He outlined India’s ambitious long-term space roadmap, which includes establishing an Indian space station by 2035 and undertaking a human lunar landing by 2040. Both ministers discussed future developments and opportunities for further institutional and commercial collaboration between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Luxembourg Space Agency.
2.Commercial Engagements and Private Sector Growth:
The partnership has already developed a significant commercial dimension, featuring communication satellite transponder leasing and the commercial launch of two Luxembourg satellites onboard India’s PSLV. The ministers explored avenues for Luxembourg’s space industry to engage with India’s rapidly expanding private space ecosystem. Potential areas for cooperation identified by the Indian side include Earth observation imagery, launch vehicle services, and commercial satellite development. Luxembourg-based companies like SES are already actively engaging with Indian entities and IN-SPACe on satellite capacity and ground subsystems.
3.Expanding into AI, Quantum Tech, and Biosciences:
Beyond space, the meeting explored significant synergies in emerging tech sectors. The leaders discussed India’s National Quantum Mission and potential applications of quantum technologies across healthcare and security. In the realm of AI, both sides shared plans to expand high-performance computing capabilities and expressed interest in connecting their private sectors. Furthermore, Dr. Singh emphasized potential collaborations with the Luxembourg Institute of Health and the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine, particularly in researching neurodegenerative diseases and Alzheimer’s.
The meeting marks a substantial expansion in the breadth of India-Luxembourg relations, moving from an established foundation in space exploration toward a multifaceted strategic partnership driven by advanced science, innovation, and mutual economic benefit.
