JAMMU, August 26, 2026 – In a significant intelligence-led operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Jammu has dismantled a major cross-border heroin trafficking cartel. The operation resulted in the seizure of 5.160 kg of high-grade heroin, valued at several crores, and the arrest of three individuals, including the suspected mastermind behind the network.
Acting on specific intelligence received on August 22, an NCB team intercepted a vehicle at Panjtirthi in the heart of Jammu. During the search, officers recovered the heroin from two occupants of the vehicle, both of whom are residents of the Baramulla district in North Kashmir.
Investigation Highlights
- Following the initial arrests, crucial leads directed the agency to another Baramulla resident who orchestrated the supply chain.
- The NCB team successfully traced the alleged mastermind to the Leh district of Ladakh, arresting him on August 24, within just two days of the initial seizure.
- Preliminary investigations indicate that the seized contraband is part of an organized cross-border supply chain.
- Officials suspect the heroin originated in Pakistan and was smuggled into India through the Uri border sector.
- The NCB is now expanding its probe to identify cross-border suppliers, financial trails, local associates, transporters, and the intended distribution network to completely uproot the cartel.
This major crackdown follows two other recent seizures by the NCB in Jammu, where 438 grams of heroin were confiscated on August 12 and 603 grams on August 13. These continuous operations underscore the agency’s intensified efforts to curb narco-trafficking in the region and contribute to a ‘Nasha Mukt’ Bharat.
The NCB has urged citizens to actively support the fight against drug addiction and trafficking by sharing credible information confidentially through the National Narcotics Helpline – MANAS (1933).
