SRINAGAR, September 28, 2026 – Underscoring the critical need for youth engagement in combating substance abuse, MLA Kathua, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, inaugurated a significant state-level programme under the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” in Srinagar on Sunday. Organized by MY Bharat Jammu & Kashmir under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the event took place at the Government Sri Pratap Higher Secondary School and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 300 students. The programme aimed to mobilize the youth to take a proactive stance against drug addiction, aligning with the broader national vision of creating a drug-free, developed India by 2047. Gopal Namdeo, Assistant Director of MY Bharat, Srinagar, was also present during the inaugural ceremony, lending official support to the vital social initiative.
During his address to the students, Dr. Bharat Bhushan strongly emphasized the absolute necessity of sustained public participation in the fight against the growing menace of substance abuse. He highlighted the pivotal role that young people must play in carrying the message of a drug-free society beyond the confines of educational institutions and directly into their families and local communities. The MLA detailed that the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan,” officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 2, 2026, represents a comprehensive 100-week nationwide ‘Jan Bhagidari’ (public participation) campaign with the youth positioned firmly at its center. Dr. Bhushan passionately urged the participating students to make healthy, responsible lifestyle choices and become active ambassadors for the cause, ensuring that the awareness generated through such state-level programmes translates into tangible social change at the grassroots level.
Further reinforcing the campaign’s objectives, Sushil Singh Charak, MY Bharat Resource Person for J&K and Chief Functionary of the Nations Development Association (NDA), addressed the gathering, stating that the ultimate success of this youth-focused initiative relies entirely on the active involvement of the younger generation. To complement the awareness sessions with practical health interventions, a specialized Health Check-up camp was organized in collaboration with the National Health Mission (NHM). This camp provided participating students with essential health screenings and preventive guidance, strengthening the programme’s focus on holistic youth wellness. Conducted under the supervision of Nitin Hangloo, State Director of MY Bharat, J&K, and supported by various Youth Clubs across Kashmir, the event successfully fostered a strong sense of responsibility among the youth, concluding with a vote of thanks by District Youth Officer Gopal Namdeo.
