AMBALA, September 28, 2026 – At least four labourers were killed and more than ten others sustained injuries when a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Dhulkot village near Ambala City on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred late Sunday afternoon when the concrete slab for the roof was actively being cast, causing the structure to cave in and trap multiple workers underneath the heavy debris. According to the accounts of the rescued workers, approximately 10 labourers were stationed on the ground floor, while around 15 others were engaged in the casting work on the upper level when the building gave way. The collapse triggered widespread panic in the surrounding area, prompting local residents to swiftly initiate initial rescue efforts before police and emergency services could arrive. Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat confirmed the four fatalities and stated that teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and the civil administration were rapidly deployed to carry out rescue operations on a war footing using heavy earth-moving machinery. Ambala Civil Surgeon Renu Beri informed reporters that 12 injured labourers were brought to the Ambala Civil Hospital, with some discharged after receiving first aid while others remain admitted for further treatment. The deceased workers have been identified as Rajinder Kumar from Ambala, Kalia Ram and Shastri Ram from Uttar Pradesh, and Roop Singh from Punjab. As rescue teams continued to clear the rubble, officials did not rule out the possibility of more workers being trapped, with efforts ongoing to locate and extricate them safely. Authorities have assured that a comprehensive investigation into the exact cause of the structural failure will be launched immediately after the rescue operations are fully concluded.
