RAJOURI, October 29, 2026 – Frustration is mounting among the local population in Thannamandi over the continued closure of the vital Manyal-Dara road, which has remained severely disrupted and unattended for over three months following a devastating flash flood.
The road, which crucially connects with the Thannamandi-Dhoke Road at Khanyalkote Gali, was damaged on July 18, 2026. Despite repeated appeals and requests to the concerned authorities by the local residents, restoration work has yet to commence, causing significant daily hardships.
According to local reports, the actual damage spans a minor stretch of only about 5 to 7 metres. Locals allege that the clearance and repair work could easily be completed within a mere two to three hours using a JCB machine. However, the prolonged administrative apathy and delay in restoration have sparked deep concern and disappointment among the residents.
The prolonged road closure has heavily disrupted essential connectivity. Residents are facing immense difficulties accessing basic healthcare facilities, markets, and other essential services. The impact is particularly severe on school-going children who struggle to reach their educational institutions safely and on time. Furthermore, government employees, daily commuters, and patients requiring urgent medical attention are facing severe inconveniences on a daily basis.
Expressing their strong resentment over the lack of effective action from the local administration and the concerned Public Works Department (PWD), residents have renewed their appeal for immediate intervention. The locals have urged authorities to act on a priority basis to restore normal connectivity and provide much-needed relief to the affected population.
