JAMMU, November 5, 2026 – Tawi Wonderland, Jammu’s newly inaugurated waste-to-wonder theme park, has rapidly emerged as a major urban attraction, drawing massive weekend crowds. However, beneath the enthusiasm for its innovative eco-friendly art, a growing section of visitors is raising concerns over the park’s entry ticket pricing, which many find steep for a public recreational space.
Spread across 40 kanals in Bhagwati Nagar, the park was built at an estimated cost of ₹11 crore under the Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) initiative in collaboration with a private partner. The park’s central attraction is its 14 stunning replicas of Indian, international, and local monuments—including the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, and Reasi’s Chenab Railway Bridge—all meticulously crafted entirely from recycled scrap metal, iron waste, and discarded vehicle parts.
Despite its artistic brilliance and eco-friendly message, the pricing structure is causing friction. The entry fee is currently set at ₹80 for adults, ₹40 for children (3 to 12 years), and ₹200 for foreign tourists (entry is free for children under 3).
For a middle-class family of four, simply entering the park costs upwards of ₹240, excluding the costs of paid parking, food from inside kiosks, and specific adventure activities. According to recent reports, with these prescribed rates, the park has already generated over ₹1 crore in estimated revenue from ticket sales since its opening in early August, having seen a massive influx of over 10,000 visitors in its first four days alone.
While the JSCL and the private operator defend the ticket prices as necessary for the maintenance, operation, and sustainability of the intricate metallic structures and the park’s vibrant evening illumination, many locals argue that public parks developed under government-backed Smart City initiatives should be more accessible.
“The park is beautiful and carries a great message about recycling, but charging ₹80 per adult is a bit much for a regular evening outing,” a local visitor noted. “When you add up parking and food, it becomes an expensive affair for an average family just looking for some weekend recreation.”
Despite the pinch of the ticket prices, Tawi Wonderland remains heavily crowded, particularly in the evenings when colorful lighting transforms the metallic monuments into photogenic attractions. Alongside the sculptures, the park features a shallow boating lake, dedicated kids’ play zones, and food courts, making it a comprehensive, albeit somewhat costly, family entertainment destination in Jammu city.
