Two Dead, Seven Critically Injured in Tragic Tata Sumo Accident in Ramban

RAMBAN, October 8, 2026 – A tragic road accident in the Ramban district claimed two lives and left seven others critically injured after a passenger vehicle skidded off the road and plunged down a steep roadside slope late Wednesday night. The fatal incident occurred near Senabati on the Senabati-Chunthan road in the Pogal Paristan tehsil when the driver of a Tata Sumo (registration JK14A-9715) lost control of the vehicle.

According to police officials, the ill-fated vehicle was travelling from Senabati towards Chunthan around 10:00 PM when the accident happened. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Vijay Singh, a resident of Chunthan, died on the spot. Following the crash, local volunteers and police immediately launched a rescue operation, shifting all eight injured passengers to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Ukhral for immediate medical attention.

Given the critical nature of their injuries, the victims were subsequently referred to higher medical facilities for specialized treatment. Two critically injured passengers, Soni Chand and Sunil Singh, were rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. However, 26-year-old Sunil Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment, raising the overall death toll to two. The remaining six injured passengers were transferred to GMC Anantnag for advanced care.

The remaining injured victims have been identified as Anand Singh, Anil Chand, Naresh Singh, Jatinder Singh, Ravinder Singh, and Ravjit Singh—all residents of Chunthan, Senabati. Police have taken formal cognizance of the tragic incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the crash. Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed his deep condolences over the loss of lives and extended his sympathies to the bereaved families.
