NEW DELHI, September 10, 2026 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a significant meeting on Thursday with Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, focusing on deepening collaborative efforts across vital developmental sectors. During the high-level talks, discussions centered heavily on strengthening cooperation in rural and social development, irrigation, and the cooperative sector. Home Minister Shah highlighted a specific focus on natural farming initiatives—particularly the cultivation of millets—and the advancement of solar energy projects. Following the meeting, Shah stated that the discussions reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing these partnerships for sustainable development and the greater good of humanity.
Shah emphasized that India deeply cherishes its enduring bond with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), the non-profit global organization currently chaired by Prince Rahim. The AKDN has maintained a continuous operational presence in India since 1978, evolving from 19th-century community institutions into a major development force that currently serves over nine million people across the country through health, education, and climate resilience programs.
This meeting forms part of Prince Rahim’s six-day maiden official visit to India since his accession as the 50th Imam. Arriving on September 9 on an invitation from Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, he has already held productive dialogues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. Before concluding his visit on September 15, the Prince is scheduled to travel to Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Hyderabad to meet with respective state leaderships and review ongoing AKDN community initiatives.
