₹6769 Crore vs ₹918 Crore, Inside BJP & Congress Financial Power

In FY 2024–25, the financial gap between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress became significantly wider. BJP reported a total income of around ₹6,769 crore, while Congress reported approximately ₹918 crore. This means BJP earned more than seven times the income of Congress during the same financial year. BJP also emerged with a strong surplus of nearly ₹3,000 crore after expenses, whereas Congress ended the year with a deficit of about ₹194 crore because its spending exceeded its earnings.

A major reason behind BJP’s financial strength was its massive donation inflow. The party received over ₹6,100 crore in contributions, accounting for more than 90% of its total income. In comparison, Congress received about ₹522 crore in donations. BJP also continued to dominate funding received through electoral trusts and large donors, reflecting its strong organizational and corporate fundraising network across the country.

On the expenditure side, both parties spent heavily on election campaigns, publicity, and political outreach due to the Lok Sabha elections. BJP spent more than ₹3,300 crore on election-related activities, while Congress spent nearly ₹900 crore. Despite spending heavily, BJP maintained a very large financial reserve because of its exceptionally high fundraising capacity. Congress, however, faced financial pressure as campaign expenditure remained high compared to its total income.

Another noticeable difference was in fundraising structure. BJP relied primarily on direct donations and large contributions, whereas Congress still depended partly on traditional coupon collections and internal party fundraising mechanisms. Congress reported substantial income from coupon sales and miscellaneous organizational sources, showing a different financial model compared to BJP’s centralized donation-driven approach.

Overall, the FY 2024–25 financial reports indicate that BJP currently possesses a far stronger financial position, larger campaign capacity, and greater fundraising efficiency than Congress. The numbers also reflect how political funding in India has become increasingly concentrated among a few major parties, with BJP holding a dominant share of total political income among national parties.
