JAMMU, September 17, 2026 – The Jammu and Kashmir Government is set to initiate major repair and renovation works across various migrant camps in Jammu, with an approved budget of ₹82.45 crore. In a high-level review meeting attended by the Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner (M), J&K, and Chief Engineers from multiple departments, officials confirmed that tender formalities for the massive renovation project have been successfully completed, and actual ground execution is expected to start shortly. The administration also issued directives to finalize a detailed project report (DPR) focused on comprehensively upgrading critical infrastructure within these camps, including migrant schools, health dispensaries, internal roads, and public parks. Furthermore, for new infrastructural projects with an estimated financial implication of ₹20 crore at the Purkhoo, Nagrota, Muthi, and Jagti migrant camps, tender processes are currently in active progress for the current financial year.
The extensive review meeting also evaluated the progress of accommodation for Prime Minister’s Package employees serving in the Kashmir Valley. Out of the 6,000 flats approved across 20 distinct locations, officials reported that the construction of 5,176 flats has already been completed. Essential allied works, including the installation of lifts, internal road paving, drainage systems, and community halls, are also nearing final completion at the majority of the sites. Specific, strict deadlines were fixed for the remaining works, with clear instructions issued to begin handing over the possession of the completed flats to eligible employees in a phased manner, adhering to previous allotments under government norms. Additionally, the Chief Engineer PW(R&B) Jammu informed the committee that the DPR for constructing additional flats for Kashmiri migrants at Purkhoo is currently in the finalization stage, while a ₹6.50 crore Multipurpose Community Hall at Jagti has been successfully completed.
The infrastructural push extends to other crucial community projects, with the administration placing a strong emphasis on completing the construction of the PoJK Bhawan at Suketar within the current financial year. Looking ahead to the next financial year, the government is proactively preparing DPRs for a slew of modernized facilities aimed at empowering the migrant youth and community. These proposed futuristic projects include the establishment of E-Learning Centres, Digital Libraries and Reading Rooms, Career Counselling and Guidance Centres, Skill Development and Vocational Training Centres, Entrepreneurship Facilitation Centres, alongside robust Sports Infrastructure and solar power integration. This multifaceted approach highlights the administration’s commitment to not only improving basic living conditions but also fostering long-term educational and economic opportunities for the migrant communities across the Union Territory.
