98% of Sanctioned Pucca Houses for ST Community Completed in J&K Under PMAY-G

JAMMU, October 23, 2026 – Achieving a massive milestone in rural housing and welfare, Jammu and Kashmir has successfully completed the construction of approximately 98 percent of the sanctioned pucca houses for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).

According to the latest data shared by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs (as of October 20, 2026), 1,07,483 ST households across the Union Territory were registered as eligible beneficiaries under the flagship scheme. Out of these, 1,07,150 houses were officially sanctioned, and an impressive 1,05,293 houses have already been completed and handed over.

Launched in April 2016, PMAY-G is a central government welfare initiative aimed at providing robust, permanent housing with basic amenities to rural populations living in dilapidated structures or without homes. Currently, only 1,857 sanctioned houses are in the final stages of completion, while 333 registered beneficiaries await sanctioning.

A district-wise breakdown reveals that Rajouri leads the Union Territory, having completed the highest number of houses at 31,625 against 32,098 sanctioned. Poonch follows closely with 22,322 completed houses out of 22,349. Reasi reported 11,682 completed houses, while Ramban and Kishtwar successfully constructed 6,641 and 5,152 houses respectively.

In the Kashmir valley, Anantnag tops the list with 4,515 completed houses, followed by Kupwara (2,138 completions) and Bandipora (2,108 completions). Srinagar achieved a 100 percent completion rate, successfully delivering all 50 houses sanctioned for the ST community in the district.

This rapid pace of construction reflects the administration’s focused approach towards ensuring inclusive development and uplifting marginalized tribal communities in the most remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
