Anti-Drug Activist Murder: Jhota’s Father to Demand CBI Probe from Amit Shah

JAMMU, October 19, 2026 – Expressing severe dissatisfaction with the ongoing local police investigation into the brutal murder of renowned anti-drug activist Deepak Sharma, popularly known as ‘Jhota’, his aggrieved family has announced that they will seek a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe directly from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Deepak Sharma, who was actively campaigning against the rampant illicit drug menace in the region, was allegedly targeted and murdered in what his family and supporters claim to be a well-orchestrated conspiracy by organized drug syndicates.

Speaking to the media, Jhota’s father stated that the local police investigation has failed to uncover the larger nexus behind the heinous crime. He alleged that while a few individuals may have been picked up, the key conspirators, financiers, and kingpins operating behind the scenes remain shielded from accountability.

“We have lost faith in the manner this case is being handled at the local level. The drug mafia runs deep, and their links cannot be thoroughly dismantled without a central agency stepping in,” Jhota’s father said. He added that the family plans to submit a formal memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to personally intervene and hand over the entire murder case to the CBI for an impartial, time-bound, and transparent inquiry.

The murder of Deepak Sharma has sparked widespread outrage across civil society groups, youth organizations, and local communities who have been demanding stringent crackdowns on the illicit narcotics trade in Jammu and Kashmir. The family maintained that only an uncompromised central probe can ensure justice for the slain crusader and expose the deep-rooted drug network that orchestrated his elimination.
