KISHTWAR, October 19, 2026 – In a major breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully solved the murder case of a Special Police Officer (SPO) in the Kishtwar district with the arrest of a father-son duo. According to officials, a deep-seated land dispute is suspected to be the primary motive behind the gruesome killing.
The arrested accused have been identified as Bashir Ahmed Dar and his son, Nazir Ahmed Dar, both residents of the Seran Wani area. Police officials revealed that the accused were distant relatives of the deceased SPO, Bashir Ahmad, and had been embroiled in a bitter land dispute with him for a considerable period.
The incident came to light after SPO Bashir Ahmad was reported missing on October 15 while returning from a local police picket along with his service weapon. A day later, on October 16, his throat-slit body was recovered from a pit in the Seran Wani area of the Trigam forest. The police subsequently recovered his missing service weapon from the same forest area.
Following the grim discovery, an FIR under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was immediately registered at the Kishtwar Police Station, and a massive investigation was launched.
“Bashir Ahmed Dar and his son Nazir Ahmed Dar were picked up on suspicion. During sustained questioning, they broke down and revealed the conspiracy and the motive behind the murder of the SPO,” a police spokesperson confirmed.
The police further stated that based on the precise disclosure made by the accused, the weapon of offense used in the crime and the concealed personal belongings of the deceased SPO have been successfully recovered. Further legal proceedings and investigations are currently underway to ensure a water-tight case against the culprits.
