JAMMU, September 2, 2026 – Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to thoroughly evaluate the progress of major road and highway infrastructure projects across the Jammu division. The comprehensive review focused on ongoing works being executed by key agencies, including the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Beacon/Sampark, and PMGSY.
The crucial session was attended by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Rakesh Minhas, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma, along with other Deputy Commissioners of the division. Senior officers from the Public Works Department (PWD), Geology & Mining, and executing agencies were also present to brief the chair on the status of projects in their respective districts.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner sought district-wise feedback on the progress of vital road sections, including the National Highway stretches from Jammu to Kathua, Udhampur, Ramban, and Banihal, as well as the Akhnoor to Poonch route.
1.Accelerating Mega Projects:
Reviewing the status of bridges, tunnels, and four-laning projects, the Divisional Commissioner issued strict directives to all executing agencies to accelerate their pace and strictly adhere to committed completion timelines. He emphasized the need for adequate deployment of manpower and machinery, alongside stringent safety measures at construction sites and vulnerable stretches.
2.Resolving Land and Clearance Bottlenecks:
A major focus of the meeting was addressing administrative hurdles that delay infrastructure development. Issues related to land acquisition, Right of Way (RoW), compensation for affected structures, and slide-affected areas were reviewed in detail. Furthermore, the Divisional Commissioner directed agencies to maintain close coordination with Forest and Wildlife authorities to expedite necessary statutory clearances and compensatory afforestation measures.
3.Quality Control and Public Convenience:
Expressing concern over avoidable delays despite the availability of funds, the chair warned that no laxity in critical projects would be tolerated. Executing agencies were instructed to immediately rectify damaged riding surfaces, fill potholes, and strengthen road approaches. Additionally, regarding drainage and utility works in busy market areas, he directed that construction be carried out in manageable stretches so that public movement and daily business activities are not severely disrupted.
The administration has reiterated its commitment to ensuring seamless connectivity and improved mobility across the region, directing all stakeholders to fix responsibility for delays and work cohesively toward the timely completion of these critical assets.
